Liposuction Procedure Process at Dennis Dass MD office in Beverly Hills CA Area

Benefits of liposuction

As you age, your body changes the way it stores fat, making it difficult to manage in certain areas. A liposuction procedure can safely remove fatty tissue with a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Liposuction is safe to use on fat deposits all over the body, including the:

  • Tummy
  • Back
  • Buttocks
  • Legs and thighs
  • Neck and chin
  • Face
  • Chest
  • Upper arms

Setting your expectations

Before your procedure, Dr. Dass will examine the treatment area and review your medical history. The best candidates for liposuction will have healthy skin with good elasticity and have stable body weight. Liposuction will remove fat cells in the target areas, and the results are permanent so long as you maintain your weight. Dr. Dass will ensure you have a realistic expectation of the results, as there is a limit to how much body fat can be safely removed during one liposuction procedure.

Dr. Dass will go over any diet or medication adjustments you need to make to prepare for the surgery and talk with you about post-op care. You’ll wear a compression garment around the treatment area for about six weeks to support the area, reduce sagging, and help your body heal. You should expect to take at least 3-4 days off of work and as much as a week, but you will be encouraged to walk around for the first few days to reduce the risks, and within 4-6 weeks, you can resume normal exercise routines.

How the process works

Liposuction is performed on over 300,000 patients across the country each year, but different surgeons use different techniques. Dr. Dass utilizes the Microcannula Tumescent Liposuction technique to reduce pain during recovery and offer smooth, natural-looking results. During the procedure, Dr. Dass will use a local anesthetic and inject a saline solution with lidocaine to prepare your fat cells for easier removal.

He’ll make tiny incisions in the treatment area to allow him to insert a small cannula that allows Dr. Dass to remove fat using suction. This technique only removes a small amount of fatty tissue with each pass so that Dr. Dass can carefully sculpt the treatment area for the most natural look. Once the procedure is finished, he’ll use small stitches to close the incisions, and these should come out on their own within a week.

You can expect some swelling and bruising in the area as your body processes the saline solution, but within a few days, the fluids will subside, and your results will become apparent. While the procedure is safe, every surgery carries some risk. Dr. Dass will discuss specific risks for your particular procedure and talk with you about the best ways to minimize these risks.
