Natrelle 410: The Highly Cohesive, Anatomically Shaped, Silicone Breast Implant

The Natrelle 410 silicone breast implant is manufactured by Allergan, and was approved by the FDA in February 2013. It is very exciting to see that this implant is finally available for all women considering breast augmentation or a revision of a previous breast augmentation. This implant has been studied extensively, and has been available for patients under strict clinical trials for almost ten years in the United States, and nearly twenty years in other countries. This implant is often called the gummy bear breast implant, because it resembles a gummy bear, and feels similar to a gummy bear. The 410 is sometimes also called a form stable implant, because it maintains its shape even when it is placed in the upright position. Officially, the Natrelle 410 breast implant is a high-cohesive silicone gel implant, and it is the 5th generation silicone implant.

The Natrelle 410 highly cohesive silicone gel breast implant is slightly firmer than a standard cohesive gel silicone implant because of the increased cross linking between the silicone polymers. The cross linking also makes the implant safer, because when the implant is cut in half, the silicone acts more like a solid and remains within the implant shell. Women have opted for saline implants due to concerns with safety, but these implants offer an even higher level of safety compared to a standard silicone implant.

The highly cohesive gel implants are anatomically shaped like a natural breast and are available in various different sizes and shapes, to provide a more customized fit. These implants will provide a more natural breast shape and a gentle natural slope to the upper pole of the breast. The implants are textured with Allergan’s Biocell texture technology, to prevent implant rotation. These implants are much less likely to ripple, hence women who currently have breast implants, but are troubled by implant rippling are excellent candidates for switching to these newer implants.

Candidates for breast augmentation with the Natrelle 410 highly cohesive silicone gel breast implant, must be at least 22 years of age. The implant can be used for primary breast augmentation and also for revision breast augmentation. Breast augmentation must be performed through an inframammary incision, to ensure proper positioning of the shaped implant. Since, the silicone is highly cohesive, the incision is slightly longer than one used for a standard silicone implant, but is well hidden in the lower breast crease.
