Beverly Hills surgeon explains what to expect from breast augmentation surgery

Dr. Dennis Dass of Dennis Dass, M.D. in Beverly Hills, CA.

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries. Fuller breasts help balance out a woman’s appearance. Clothes look and fit better. Looking good and feeling good about one’s own appearance builds confidence as well. Dr. Dennis Dass in Beverly Hills offers breast augmentation surgery to help women achieve the shape and curves they desire.

Candidates for breast augmentation

No two women have the same body. Because of this uniqueness, cosmetic surgery procedures should be tailored to the patient. This allows the individual to have a more natural, appropriate look for her body type.

Breast augmentation or augmentation mammoplasty involves using breast implants or a fat transfer to enhance the size of a patient’s breasts. This may be done to restore lost breast volume following pregnancy or weight loss, to achieve a fuller or more rounded breast shape, or to improve breast asymmetry. Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their upper body may consider surgical options. Potential candidates for breast augmentation surgery may have one or more of the following goals:

  • Increasing the fullness or projection of the breasts
  • Improving the curves and balance out the body
  • Enhancing body image and self-esteem

Breast augmentation surgery is not designed to correct severely drooping breasts. However, a breast lift combined with the breast augmentation may help the breasts look fuller and lifted. Dr. Dass can help determine the best procedure to help you achieve the figure you desire.

What to expect

A consultation is required for surgical procedures. During this time, Dr. Dass will review your medical history and discuss your expectations to determine if you are a candidate for breast augmentation surgery.

To prepare for surgery, patients may need to:

  • Have bloodwork done
  • Stop smoking as it can affect the healing process
  • Avoid taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs prior to the procedure as they can increase bleeding

Breast augmentation surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure. Patients will need someone to drive them to and from the procedure and to stay with them the night of surgery. Anesthesia is used to maintain patient comfort throughout the procedure.

Incisions are made in an inconspicuous manner to minimize visible scarring. Incisions may be made along the areolar edge, under the breast, or in the armpit. Dr. Dass will discuss these options prior to surgery. The incision used depends on the implant type, the degree of enhancement desired, the patient’s body, and the surgeon’s preference. After the incision is made, the implant is inserted either under the pectoral muscle or over the muscle and directly under the breast tissue. The incisions are then closed with sutures.

Breast augmentation results

Breast augmentation surgery is an outpatient procedure to improve the shape and fullness of the breasts.

Following surgery, you will be given specific post-operative instructions on how to care for your incisions and to help the healing process. Medication may be prescribed to prevent infection and to manage pain or discomfort. Your breasts may be wrapped with bandages or a support bra to minimize swelling and to provide support. A support garment should continue to be worn as instructed by your doctor. Clean the incision site and apply ointment as instructed. Swelling and soreness are common and may linger for a couple weeks. Pay attention to your body. Gradually increase your activity level as you feel up to it. Avoid strenuous exercise until your physician approves it.

Although patients get immediate gratification with breast augmentation surgery, it may take a few weeks to see the full results. Initially, patients can expect a lot of swelling. Over a couple weeks, the swelling will subside and results will be noticeable. The scars from the incision will fade with time.

Breast implants do not impair breast health. However, regular examinations help monitor your breast health and evaluate the condition of your implants. Breast implants are not lifelong devices. They may need to be replaced. Over time, your body goes through changes with age, weight changes, hormonal factors, and gravity. As the appearance of the breasts changes, the implants may need to be replaced or a breast lift may be needed to maintain the youthful contour.

Breast augmentation is a popular procedure to help patients achieve the shapely, curvaceous bodies they desire. If you are interested in breast augmentation surgery, schedule an appointment with Dr. Dennis Dass in Beverly Hills. Call (855) 496-4646.
