Upper blepharoplasty is performed to remove the excess skin that develops on our upper eyelids as we age. The excess skin that droops along the lateral eyelid creates a tired look. During surgery, an incision is created on your upper eyelid, and typically heals well. The incision is usually well hidden in a natural eyelid skin crease. You will see an immediate improvement in the look of your eyes. In some cases, the upper eyelid appears droopy because the eyebrow position is too low. Brow lift surgery can be performed at the same time as a blepharoplasty to improve the overall appearance of the eyes and make you look more rested.
Lower blepharoplasty is performed to remove the excess skin and fat that develops around the lower eyelids as we age. This surgery improves the lower lid bags and can also smooth out the eyelid-cheek junction. A canthopexy may be required to tighten the lower eyelid.
Eyelid surgery can be done under local or general anesthesia. It can be done at the same time as other procedures to reduce your costs. The swelling and bruising will resolve in about 1-2 weeks.
Blepharoplasty is a real surgery and carries a small risk of complications. Risks of surgery include bleeding, infection, scars, dry eyes, asymmetry, and eyelid malposition. Risks are often dependent on your current medical condition. Dr. Dass performs surgery in an accredited surgical facility to maintain the highest standards for safety.
