Both silicone and saline implants have an outer silicone shell, but saline implants are inserted empty and filled with sterile salt water during the procedure. When silicone implants are inserted, they’re full of a thick, sticky gel formulated to mimic human fat for a natural appearance and feel. Dr. Dass also offers yet another modern option: the “gummy bear” implant, which gets its name from how the particularly thick silicone gel resists breakage and, in the very rare event of a ruptured shell, these implants maintain their shape.
